Meet the Sellers: Bex & El from StuffedNonsense

Having seen their super fun and unique products on Etsy and the Crafty Fox blog, I desperately wanted StuffedNonsense to be present at the Spring Brighton Craftaganza, so I emailed them and crossed my fingers. Thankfully they were as excited to be a part of our market as we are to have them and Brighton residents and visitors will be able to see their stall on Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd March at the Fabrica Gallery.

Where and when do you design and make your products?

We’re based in cheltenham and fit StuffedNonsense around working the day jobs; which means we’re normally working on StuffedNonsense during our days off and in the evening time. We’re both fortunate enough to each have a studio in our houses so we tuck ourselves away in there for hours on end.

How long have you been selling your wares and how did it begin?

We’ve been going for almost five years now. It all started when we met at our old jobs in the cinema, we made each other a monster each (a monster swap if you like), our friends saw them and told us we should be selling them…the rest, as they say, is history.

Have you sold in Brighton before? If not, what made to decide to try?

Nope. But lots of our favorite makers have sold at the Brighton Craftganza so we thought we’d give it a shot. We love going to Brighton for trips to the sea so trying to get some StuffedNonsense down there seems like a wonderful idea!

Any other crafty disciplines you like to practice?

Embroidery helps me switch off…i’ll just doodle on the fabric and stitch over it. El is partial to a doodle here and there.

What inspires the things you make?

A lot of the time we work from a saying or turn of phrase for example Sweet Cheeks, Frowny Puss and Long John. The rest of the time we just kind of get an idea of a shape or style and work from there, tweaking the design until we have the plush we’re after. We’re also heavily influenced by facial hair…(gosh we sound like wierdos)

Personal motto?

‘Its supposed to be like that’ gets bandied around the studios a lot, especially when we realize that something has a wonky beard.
