As soon as the decision was made to offer free crafty workshops at this weekend’s Summer Brighton Craftaganza, one of the local business that I knew had to be involved was Super+SuperHQ.
For those who are currently unaware, Super+Super HQ is the brain child of two lovely friends, Claire and Amy (pictured above), which provides a location for all manner of creative activities and endeavours. They redecorated and repurposed a wonderful South Lanes located building (formerly a shop and storage space) so they can rent out desk space to creative self-employed individuals and facilitate all manner of workshops, classes and talks run by themselves and other local crafty types.
To get a free taste of the type of thing you can learn at Super+Super HQ, come down to the Summer Brighton Craftaganza on Tuesday 5th June between 10.30am and 2pm. Amy and Claire will be on hand to guide learners through a series of traditional hand embroidery stitches in an array of colours and styles. These new skills can then be transferred into motifs or designs to embellish/customize a cotton hanky.
Due to the unstructured nature of the event, attendees will be encouraged to jump in and start learning on arrival and just have a go! There will be numerous examples, books and hand outs to inspire and instruct. Super+Super will encourage learners to generate their own designs and colour combinations, to work with mixing different types of yarns to push any pre-conceived ideas about hand embroidery.
All you need to bring is yourself, the S+S girls will be providing the embroidery threads and yarns, embroidery needles, printed hand-outs of stitch techniques, cotton handkerchiefs and plenty of books, magazines and images to inspire!!!
This is an entirely free workshop that you simple need to turn up to, no need to pre-book. Plus, for a donation of £2 attendees will be able to take away with them a limited edition S+S sewing kit to help kick start their new hobby!
