If you are reading this blog, chances are you’ve seen the flyer for the first Brighton Craftaganza, which was held one week ago at Fabrica. Well, I would like to introduce you to the talent behind the image we used: illustrator and thoroughly lovely lady Jennie Ball!
Jennie got involved with Craftaganza when I asked her nicely if she would flex her sizeable illustrative talents to come up with an image to feature on our publicity. The resultant image she came up with totally encapsulated the cheeky, fun and playful nature that we hoped would exude from Craftaganza. Afterall, fun and playful experimentation are elements of crafting and creating that Lisa, Steph and myself all enjoy the most.
A multi-talented and multi-disciplined lady herself, I met Jennie over ten years ago when we both signed up to the Fashion Design course at Nottingham Trent University. Her ability to create amazingly dynamic fashion illustrations really stood out. Within the first week of the course we had become friends and lived together for a couple of years before graduation sent us back to our opposing ends of the country. A couple of years ago we got back in touch (via the wonder of facebook!), by which time I was living in Barcelona, Spain. Frustrated with her, allbeit successful, career as a clothing designer in London, it wasn’t long until she decided to make her own new start in Barcelona where she still resides.
Since she has been living in Barcelona, her decision to push forward as an illustrator has already started to pay off. With book and magazine commissions under her belt, she recently hosted a solo exhibition entitled ‘You Can’t Pin Down a Pin-Up’, which was very well received.
Many of her illustrations can been seen on her portfolio website. We are crossing our fingers and toes that she will agree to create another illustration for our next Craftaganza event ;-).
Lisa, Steph and myself would like to take this opportunity to say massive thank yous to Jennie for her amazing exclusive illustration which gave our project a persona and uniqueness. Miss you hon!!!
